For François Schneider, the most unjust of all inequalities comes from birth. People's background may help some people to succeed while proving a handicap to others, who may be more deserving.
That was why François Schneider wanted to use his Foundation to provide financial help for school-leavers so that they could continue their education and reach the goals they had set themselves, even if their family's limited means alone would have made higher education inaccessible. Every year, the Foundation awards more than 200 scholarships to young people in financial hardship.
François Schneider wishes, through his Foundation, to support creators, who have not achieved recognition from the general public, by acquiring their works and showing them to their best advantage in a well known venue that is highly appreciated. This is the reason behind the construction of the Foundation's Art Centre in Wattwiller in the Haut-Rhin department. The main building will have over 2,000 square metres of exhibition space.
By creating the prizes, the Foundation wishes to encourage artists to reflect, look around them, analyse and criticise, divert and use water, its properties, symbols, tools, issues, to make their own this theme that has been part of the history of art since the beginning of time.
Candidates from all countries, all ages will be chosen for the following disciplines: painting, sculpture, installation, drawings, photography, video and new media.
